No one likes to feel cold, and especially not in the bedroom.
A cold bedroom is not conducive to sleep and neither is it an ideal environment to get ready in.
A bedroom that faces north can inherently feel cold, so it’s important to choose an interior colour scheme that adds warmth.
Whilst it might seem logical, the four key areas to consider are the floor treatment, the wallcovering, the bedlinen and the storage finish itself.
Choose a floor covering that adds warmth
A carpet is the best floorcovering to add warm in the bedroom, regardless of whether it is north or south facing. Nothing quite beats stepping out of your bed onto a carpet and sinking your toes into its soft pile. Alternatively, if your preference is wooden flooring, opt for a rug to soften the scheme.
Consider adding a decorative element to your walls?
North facing rooms tend to have colder walls. In older properties these walls can be prone to damp. Choose a finish for your walls that best suits them. Painted walls are easy to redecorate, especially if damp patches appear. Likewise, a bedroom can be made to warm and inviting, with decorative wallpaper.
The bed itself
A bed with decorative bedlinen, a sumptuous quilt or additional blankets and scatter cushions looks cosy and inviting. Even a predominantly white bedroom can feel homely with luxurious accessories and plush throws.
The bedframe itself can make a difference. A standard divan bed is just functional. Equally an ornate or fully upholstered bed frame adds interest and the feeling of security whilst in the bed itself.
Storage in the bedroom
The finish that you choose for your wardrobes will also have an impact on the overall feel of the room. It goes without saying that a darker finish, or rich woodgrain will add opulence to your bedroom. However, where light levels are relatively low, it may be better to choose a softer finish.
Our Calabria Cashmere and Lazio Oak palettes feature a variety of warmer shades, ideal for a north facing bedroom. And whilst mirrored doors will make a smaller room appear larger, if they reflect the north facing side, this will only add to the overall colder feel.
