Classic Blue, Pantone’s colour of the year in 2020…

For over 20 years the experts at Pantone have chosen a colour of the year.

As you might expect, in conjunction with Pantone’s trend forecasters and colour consultants, the panel looks to all areas of design, and especially interiors and fashion. But their inspiration isn’t simply limited to these areas… The panel look to the entertainment industry, evolving styles in art and new artists, trending items and topics on relevant social media platforms and even popular travel destinations. This enables them to have a much clearer and unbiased opinion of what’s capturing the worlds’ attention.

‘Classic Blue’ has been chosen as the colour for 2020.

Perhaps it’s just a coincidence but ‘Classic Blue’ is clearly very close to the background colour of the European flag, so it’s not a total surprise that it was chosen! It’s certainly been a very topical subject here in the UK, and ironically today is the day when we officially leave the EU.

The Pantone institution suggests that it will ‘instil calm, confidence and connection.’ They add ‘this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era’ so perhaps the inspiration is a bit closer to home than we realise!

As well as choosing the actual shade, the Pantone institute also suggests palettes that will complement the colour for the year. ‘Ponder’ is one such palette, with a mixture of blues, warm grey, rich taupe, soft peach and champagne.

Some of the finishes in our ‘Palermo Grey’ palette are not too dissimilar to some of the ‘Ponder’ palette.

Dust Grey’, ‘Denim’, ‘Grey Linen’, ‘Aluminium’ and ‘Pasadena Pine’ would be finishes that would all look fabulous with ‘Classic Blue’.

Especially effective if it’s used as an accent colour with finishes such as ‘Pasadena Pine’ and ‘Denim’, Classic Blue is an alluring shade, adding warmth and charm to any bedroom.

Often overlooked, but equally as important is the internal storage fittings!

Be sure to allow for plenty of full and short height hanging space for trousers and shirts, along with internal drawers for storing underwear and socks, and shelving above for bedlinen and spare pillows.

Wherever its inspiration has come from, the Pantone colour for 2020 is sure to create and warm and inviting interior space, perfect for a cozy nights’ sleep!
